In May, 2014, the Kentucky Arts Council gathered the recipients/finalists for ArtPlace America and NEA Our Town grants together in Benham, KY for a day-long meeting to discuss creative placemaking projects happening throughout the state.
In June, 2014, Kentucky organizations were awarded 2 ArtPlace America grants (IDEAS 40203 in Louisville, Pathfinders of Perry Co. in Hazard), and 4 NEA “Our Town” grants in July (Appalachian Artisan Center of Kentucky – Hindman, Blue Grass Community Foundation – Lexington, Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College – Cumberland, IDEAS 40203 – Louisville).
To continue the conversation, the group met in Pikeville, KY for a day-long conference on August 2, 2014, with organizations from 9 different cities in Kentucky. After hearing about new and ongoing projects, the discussion turned to a statewide strategy for collaboration between Kentucky-based creative organizations – what might that look like and how would it be orchestrated?
The dialogue continues with a 3rd meeting scheduled for November, 2014.
